For the 6th Family Faith Formation Seminar, Fr. Fernando A. Cornejo discussed Stewardship.
Fr. Fernando began by discussing the etymology of stewardship. According to him, stewardship came from the Greek word ‘oikonomos’ and ‘epitopos’ which means manager, caretaker, supervisor and administrator. However, Fr. Fernando said that stewardship is not just centered to money, property, or position. Stewards are also collaborators who work together to a common purpose to achieve a common goal.
Fr. Fernando reminded us that we are the stewards of God’s creation. God has blessed each of us with special gifts, the gift of life, body, time, money and property. As a steward, we should not waste the beauty of these gifts that he has given and should be used to honor him. We must remember that our bodies are not ours. Therefore, we must handle it properly, with respect and honor to God. Apart from this, each of us is blessed with a precious 24 hours a day. Since time cannot be restored nor borrowed, we must spare time for our personal development, family, hobbies, thinking development, and other important things. As good stewards, we must achieve a life that is well, balanced, successful and pleasing before him.
Let us always remember that everything we have is a gift from God, we must take care of his gifts and resources that each one has received, be fruitful and multiply it, and use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace.
