An Episcopal Coronation is a ceremony where a Marian Image is recognized under a particular title with the respective locality. It is led by the local bishop or archbishop of the local diocese.
The requirements for the Episcopal Coronation is similar to Canonical Coronation of an image. It is very important that the image has its respected parish, shrine, or Basilica and it must be from an ancient time. There should be a miracle from the respective image accompanied with a proof. And last, the image must have devotees and its impact needs to last for a lifetime.
On the other hand, Canonical Coronation is a religious act of the pope where a Marian, Josephian, and Christological image is crowned. It is duly expressed thru the Papal Bull.
The requisites of the Canonical Coronation is very similar to the requisites of the Episcopal Coronation. It must have antiquity, devotees, and intense impact lasting through time, and of course, miracles which are duly recorded. Aforementioned documents and petition letters signed by ecclesiastical people and the devotees are submitted to the ecclesiastical authorities are also important requirements, for this will serve as a recommendation. The documents and letters will be passed to the Congregation of Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments. They will study the documents, which will lead to further recommendations, that would lead to the issuance of the Papal Bull to grant the coronation.
