On April 17, 2025, the Maundy Thursday was commemorated. The Holy Mass was led by Rev. Fr. Fernando (Fhyrdz) Cornejo, the Parish Priest of the Holy Family Parish.
In his homily, he shared the essence of Jesus’ washing of the apostles’ feet, stating that it served as emphasis on His love and devotion to mankind and His goal to set a strong example of humility to everyone.
“This is not just a pass the message for us, rather, it is pass the action,” he said.
According to Fr. Fhyrdz, Jesus knew on that moment that His life is about to come to an end and that He wants to relay a message to His disciples but lacks enough time for them to remember it.
“Before anyone was able to come up with the phrase ‘action speaks louder than words,’ Jesus was already executing it” he further added.
Jesus’ washing of the feet didn’t simply leave a mark on the apostles’ mind, but also to their heart.
He also urged the people to follow the footsteps of Jesus by instilling humility and patience to others, and become His instrument in spreading kindness.
“Doesn’t it feel great to become a part of a very important mission?” he said.
He then ended his homily by asking for prayers, that he and his fellow priests may have enough strength to embody Christ to their community, and asked for forgiveness with their shortcomings.
The homily was followed by a reenactment of Jesus' act. Fr. Fhyrdz washed the feet of 12 lay ministers who represented the 12 apostles.
After that the Parish Pastoral Council handed the Chrism oil to the parish priest.
The mass was informally ended by a short procession of the Holy Eucharist inside, which was then placed in the repository, where the parishioners held a vigil.
