Hundreds of parishioners attended the mass to receive their ashes last Ash Wednesday.
The mass was led by our Parish priest Rev. Fr. Ferdie C. Delatado. He highlighted in his homily that this season, we are going to fight in a battle. A battle to win against the evil spirits.
Unlike the soldiers who are painting their faces to hide from their enemies, we Christians put cross made out of ash in our foreheads, and this a representation that we are believers of God and our only intention is to win against sins.
The cross on our forehead also symbolizes Jesus’s success and His love for us. Our weapon in this battle is prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, which are simply known as the three pillars of lent.
Fr. Ferdie also reminded us that boasting and letting people know that we are helping is not really relevant, rather, it is important that the Lord sees that we are sincere and pure on what we are doing. He also told us that the ash in our forehead is a representation that we are made out of ashes and that we are sinners, and we need the Lord in our life.
