The second Simbang Gabi for the anticipation of Jesus’ birth was presided over by Fr. Fermin "Jao" Leoveras, FdCC which highlighted three important reminders for Catholics.
He began by saying that God is delighted that Catholics attended the Holy Mass, which indicates that many of them made the time and effort to praise Him. He reminded everyone that attending Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo is necessary, not only because it is traditional but also because each individual listens to His calling in their soul.
“Catholics must keep in mind to continue honoring Him even after Christmas.”
Father Jao also shared a personal story that before entering seminary, he admired someone and was willing to solemnize a novena in accordance with the girl's birthday wish despite not knowing how to do so. With this experience, he gained an appreciation for the beauty of prayer, which inspired him to consider becoming a priest. Everyone should be reminded that God's plan is distinct and that everyone should embrace it.
"God's plan is different, everyone ought to praise Him not because we have something to wish for, but because He has a command for us with a purpose that we must follow."
Lastly, he emphasized that God constantly wants to be with everyone, despite human limitations and shortcomings. He is willing to lead, help, and instill his love in everyone's souls.
Father Jao concluded his homily by encouraging everyone to make a sacrifice since doing so represents our gratitude to Him for choosing us because everyone is a member of His family.
